PHINMA: No price increase, stable supply of roofing in Odette-hit areas
Since the country was ravaged by Typhoon Odette, the PHINMA Group has been responding to the call for the private sector to get involved in the much needed efforts to provide relief and support for reconstruction in the hardest hit areas in Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan. This has been done through PHINMA’s network of schools, offices and facilities as well as dealers and industry partners all over the country.
PHINMA’s Construction Materials Group responded to the call to ensure a stable supply of construction and roofing materials in the country after the devastation of Odette. Leveraging on its quality products and the company’s diversified distribution network in strategic locations throughout the country, Union Galvasteel Corporation (UGC) assures the public that roofing supply has been available in areas where it operates.
“We are one with the government, the private sector, and the Filipino people in assisting the survivors rebuild their homes after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette. In addition to ensuring reliable supply, we have also made all roofing sheets available at pre-Odette prices without sacrificing quality or falling into price gouging. This is our commitment to our countrymen, our contribution to PHINMA’s long history in providing access to the essentials of a dignified life to Filipino families especially at times of extreme need,” says Mr. Eduardo A. Sahagun, PHINMA Executive Vice President – Construction Materials and President and CEO of Union Galvasteel Corporation.
Working with local parishes, UGC donated roofing sheets to underprivileged families affected by Odette. 98 residents from the poorest households of Brgy. Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu received the initial donation at the Parish of Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary open grounds on February 17, 2022.
UGC also provided roofing support for the joint rehabilitation effort of PHINMA Foundation and Mariposa Foundation with Gawad Kalinga (GK) for 137 families residing in Brgy. West Poblacion Candoni, Negros Occidental. The UGC team and community volunteers of GK Negros Occidental Chapter distributed 500 corrugated roofing sheets, 1 truckload (400 pcs) of coco lumber, and 20 kilograms of roofing nails to the beneficiary households last January 27, 2022. Candoni, a 4th class municipality in the southern part of Negros Occidental, was among the hardest hit in the province of Negros Occidental when the super typhoon ravaged the country.
In addition to the relief and rehabilitation efforts of the PHINMA Group, UGC is also offering roofing materials at discounted rates for heavily affected PHINMA employees, students, and identified local community partners.
